Over 15 lakh jobs in the MSME sector are listed on the Udyam portal

Since the number of employment reported by micro, small, and medium-sized firms registered on the government’s Udyam site reached the 15 crore mark, India’s small businesses have seen extraordinary development.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-271709″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/theindiaprint.com-over-15-lakh-jobs-in-the-msme-sector-are-listed-on-the-udyam-portal-download-2023-.jpg” alt=”theindiaprint.com over 15 lakh jobs in the msme sector are listed on the udyam portal download 2023″ width=”1126″ height=”749″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/theindiaprint.com-over-15-lakh-jobs-in-the-msme-sector-are-listed-on-the-udyam-portal-download-2023-.jpg 275w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/theindiaprint.com-over-15-lakh-jobs-in-the-msme-sector-are-listed-on-the-udyam-portal-download-2023–150×100.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1126px) 100vw, 1126px” title=”Over 15 lakh jobs in the MSME sector are listed on the Udyam portal 6″>

3.41 crore female workers, out of 13.86 crore total positions, were reported by 2.06 micro, small, and medium-sized companies (MSMEs) that registered directly with the platform. Through the government’s Udyam Assist site (UAP), 99.98 lakh micro units enrolled on the site reported the remaining 1.17 crore employment.

“It is a matter of immense joy and pride that under the leadership of respected Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji, MSME sector has achieved the great achievement of generating 15 crore+ employment,” MSME Minister Narayan Rane said in a statement about the development.

“There are almost 3.4 crore women among these 15 crore workers. He wrote on X, “The MSME sector is promoting micro, small, and medium entrepreneurs on a large scale, thereby creating new livelihoods across the country, under the multidimensional guidance of the Prime Minister.”

It should be mentioned that the Udyog Aadhaar Memorandum (UAM) was replaced in 2020 with the opening of the Udyam site in July of the same year. In three years of operation between September 2015 and June 30, 2020, UAM has only registered 1.02 crore MSMEs, according to the MSME ministry’s 2020–21 annual report.

Additionally, the ministry’s annual report included data from the 73rd round of the National Sample Survey (NSS), which was carried out between 2015 and 2016. This round revealed that 11. crore jobs in India were reported by 6.33 crore MSMEs.

The government started UAP in January to provide them access to loans for the priority industry.

In a related development, Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal said that the government is investigating avenues, including free trade agreements, to allow national MSMEs to take part in international public procurement.

According to him, public procurement makes for 10–15% of a nation’s GDP, or around USD 10–15 trillion in total value.

The secretary said that international commerce will benefit from MSMEs’ participation into global supply networks.
