<p>Pat E. Johnson, who was well-known for his acting instruction and combat choreography in the “The Karate Kid” movies, died away quietly at home in Los Angeles. He passed away at the age of 84, leaving a martial arts competence legacy. <p>Johnson’s incredible martial arts career started when he attained the prestigious level of ninth-degree black belt. His skill in martial arts was particularly valued on the production of the well-known coming-of-age film “The Karate Kid” (1984). He started acting classes with Pat Morita and Ralph Macchio, among others. Daniel Larusso, played by Macchio, received karate instruction from Morita’s renowned Mr. Miyagi and used it to defend himself against bullies at his new Los Angeles school. In the first movie, Daniel won the All Valley Karate Tournament thanks to a crane kick that Macchio executed, thanks in large part to Johnson’s guidance. He entered the movie as a referee as well.</p>
<p>In 1939, Pat E. Johnson was born in Niagara Falls, New York. His first encounter with karate occurred in 1963 when he was serving as a chaplain in the United States army in Korea. There, he began studying Tang Soo Do, an antiquated kind of karate. Amazingly, he obtained a black belt in this tough discipline in only 13 months.</p>
<p>In 2019, William Zabka, who starred with Ralph Macchio as Johnny Lawrence in the spinoff series “Cobra Kai,” discussed the significant influence Pat E. Johnson had on his life and career. Johnson’s commitment to the “Karate Kid” brand was evident in the 1986 and 1989 follow-ups as well as the 1994 release of “The Next Karate Kid” starring Hilary Swank. In addition, he contributed his skills as a stunt coordinator and stuntman to a number of movies, such as “Mortal Kombat” (1995), “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” (1992), and “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” (1990).</p>
<p>Johnson was a key member of the teaching staff of Chuck Norris’ karate schools in Sherman Oaks, where he taught in addition to his career in movies. In 1993, Pat E. Johnson was elected into the North American Sport Karate Association Hall of Fame as a tribute to his enormous contributions to the martial arts world.</p>
<p>His sons, Brett, Garth, Larry, and Erik, as well as his devoted wife Sue, with whom he had more than 50 years of companionship, survive him. Richard and Cindy, his siblings, also treasure his memories. Future generations will be inspired by Pat E. Johnson’s history as a professional martial artist and member of the film business.</p>
