The Lok Sabha Speaker refers Mahua Moitra of the TMC’s “Bribe-for-Query” complaint to the ethics committee

Om Birla, the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, has submitted the allegation made by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey against TMC lawmaker Mahua Moitra for allegedly receiving money to raise questions in the Parliament to the lower house’s Ethics Committee.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-240578″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/theindiaprint.com-download-2023-10-17t182100.455.jpg” alt=”theindiaprint.com download 2023 10 17t182100.455″ width=”1205″ height=”675″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/theindiaprint.com-download-2023-10-17t182100.455.jpg 300w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/theindiaprint.com-download-2023-10-17t182100.455-150×84.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1205px) 100vw, 1205px” title=”The Lok Sabha Speaker refers Mahua Moitra of the TMC's "Bribe-for-Query" complaint to the ethics committee 6″>

In his letter to Birla, Dubey stated that a Supreme Court attorney had made accusations against Moitra about bribery allegedly received from industrialist Darshan Hiranandani. The BJP MP claimed that Moitra had asked roughly 50 questions in the Parliament with “the intent of protecting or perpetuating business interests” of the Hiranandani Group, which the Dubey alleged was engaged in a bidding war with the Gautam Adani-led Adani Group, in reference to the accusations made by Jai Anant Dehadrai. The accusations have been refuted by The Hiranandani Group.

Asserting that Mahua Moitra and businessman Darshan Hiranandani exchanged bribes in order to seek, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey writes to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla requesting the creation of an investigative committee against her and her immediate suspension from the House.

The Speaker of the House appoints the 15 members of the Lok Sabha’s Ethics Committee. The panel’s tenure is one year. At the moment, BJP MP Vinod Kumar Sonkar serves as its leader. The panel’s role is to investigate each allegation of unethical behavior by a Lok Sabha MP that the Speaker refers to it, to make any recommendations it may deem appropriate, to create a code of conduct for members of the lower house of Parliament, and to occasionally suggest changes or additions to the code of conduct.

In response to the claims made against Moitra, The Adani Group said on Monday that the news supports its prior claim that “some groups and individuals have been working overtime to harm our name, goodwill, and market standing.”

The investigation of Moitra in this situation has been urged by Dubey, who has also asked for the suspension of Moitra’s Lok Sabha membership during the investigation. He further charged the TMC MP with disclosing her login credentials for the Lok Sabha to unauthorized parties.
