Open to Joining Chamling’s Sikkim Democratic Front, according to Bhaichung Bhutia

Bhaichung Bhutia, a former football player who is now a politician, said on Wednesday that he was open to joining the opposition Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF), which is run by a former chief minister named Pawan Kumar Chamling.

The head of the Hamro Sikkim Party (HSP) told PTI that negotiations with the SDF are ongoing and that “things may be finalized soon.”<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-163189″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-sidhu-tells-punjab-congress-leaders-refusing-to-form-an-alliance-with-aap-partys-w.jpg” alt=”theindiaprint.com sidhu tells punjab congress leaders refusing to form an alliance with aap partys w” width=”1216″ height=”809″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-sidhu-tells-punjab-congress-leaders-refusing-to-form-an-alliance-with-aap-partys-w.jpg 275w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-sidhu-tells-punjab-congress-leaders-refusing-to-form-an-alliance-with-aap-partys-w-150×100.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1216px) 100vw, 1216px” title=”Open to Joining Chamling's Sikkim Democratic Front, according to Bhaichung Bhutia 9″>

“We are in discussions with the SDF, and things might be resolved soon. When asked to clarify rumors that he could join the biggest opposition party in the Himalayan state, he answered, “We won’t be able to disclose the whole facts until after that.

However, the 46-year-old former international player said that he was “open to joining the SDF”.

He said that there were internal conversations taking place inside the party over the future of the HSP, which Bhutia had created with other like-minded individuals before to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

In the most recent assembly elections, which Bhutia also lost from the two seats he ran for, the party received fewer than 2% of the vote.

Bhutia and Chamling have met multiple times to discuss how to combat the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha, which is headed by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, also known as P S Golay.

In addition to accusing the CM of “being party to the dilution of Article 371 (F) of the Constitution that protects old laws of Sikkim,” the HSP leader has been persistently criticizing Tamang on matters of governance.

In the previous elections, Chamling’s party had gained 15 assembly seats; however, 12 of them eventually moved to the BJP, and two to the governing SKM.

Numerous SDF members, including senior leaders and former MLAs, have also left the organization.
