Imran Khan Charged With Terrorism For Attack On GHQ After Being Linked To Six Cases

In relation to the historic attack on the General Headquarters (GHQ) of the army in Rawalpindi on May 9, Imran Khan, the former prime minister of Pakistan and head of the Pakistan-Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, has been linked to six cases, three of which fall under the strict Anti-Terrorism Act. Joint investigation teams (JITs) looked into a number of violent incidents, including the targeting of military installations and an arson attack at a metro station, following the attack, which the military dubbed a “Black Day” and saw supporters of Khan breach the gates of the GHQ.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-61937″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/www.theindiaprint.com-imran-khan-charged-with-terrorism-for-attack-on-ghq-after-being-linked-to-six-cases-reuters-imran-khan-apr10042302-16879309503×2-1-750×500.jpg” alt=”” width=”1653″ height=”1102″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/www.theindiaprint.com-imran-khan-charged-with-terrorism-for-attack-on-ghq-after-being-linked-to-six-cases-reuters-imran-khan-apr10042302-16879309503×2-1-750×500.jpg 750w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/www.theindiaprint.com-imran-khan-charged-with-terrorism-for-attack-on-ghq-after-being-linked-to-six-cases-reuters-imran-khan-apr10042302-16879309503×2-1-1024×683.jpg 1024w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/www.theindiaprint.com-imran-khan-charged-with-terrorism-for-attack-on-ghq-after-being-linked-to-six-cases-reuters-imran-khan-apr10042302-16879309503×2-1-768×512.jpg 768w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/www.theindiaprint.com-imran-khan-charged-with-terrorism-for-attack-on-ghq-after-being-linked-to-six-cases-reuters-imran-khan-apr10042302-16879309503×2-1-150×100.jpg 150w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/www.theindiaprint.com-imran-khan-charged-with-terrorism-for-attack-on-ghq-after-being-linked-to-six-cases-reuters-imran-khan-apr10042302-16879309503×2-1.jpg 1200w” sizes=”(max-width: 1653px) 100vw, 1653px” />

Sources claim that three complaints against the 70-year-old Khan were filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act on May 9 and the other three cases were submitted on May 10. These new events compound the growing legal difficulties Khan’s party is facing in the wake of the enormous uproar brought on by his detention outside the Islamabad High Court on suspicion of corruption. Since being removed from office in April of the previous year, Khan is said to have been involved in close to 150 cases nationwide.

The Corps Commander’s House in Lahore, formerly known as Jinnah House and the former home of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, was also attacked and damaged by PTI supporters during the time of unrest. More than 20 civic and military sites were attacked as a consequence of the attacks, which resulted in more than 10 deaths. Khan was being held at the time of the violent outburst, it should be noted.

Several police stations, including Civil Lines in Faisalabad, Samanabad, RA Bazar, and New Town in Rawalpindi, City Police Station in Mianwali, and Police Station Cantt in Gujranwala, have lodged complaints against Khan. Although Khan had not previously been connected to any of the 28 incidents in Rawalpindi, the decision to include his name was made after consulting with legal professionals and relying on claims made by suspects under investigation. The crimes, which were reported to the police stations in RA Bazar and New Town, especially concern the assault on the GHQ and other military facilities.
