In addition, Shah said that 2022 saw the fewest violent occurrences and fatalities in Naxal-affected regions in the previous forty years when presiding over a conference to assess the security situation in LWE-affected states.

In two years, he said, left wing extremism would be completely eradicated from the nation. We are determined to eradicate naxalism in all of its manifestations because it is a plague to mankind, he said.

According to officials, compared to the peak in 2010, violent events in Naxal-affected areas have decreased by 77% since 2022.

The chief ministers of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Jharkhand were present during the review meeting. Devendra Fadnavis, the deputy chief minister of Maharashtra, joined state ministers from Odisha, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh for the conference.

According to officials, over the last five years, the country’s LWE security position has significantly improved. The “National Policy and Action Plan to Address LWE” was adopted by the federal government in 2015.

According to the authorities, the policy envisions a multifaceted approach that includes security-related measures, development interventions, securing local people’ rights and entitlements, etc.

They claimed that the constant application of this approach had led to a nationwide drop in LWE violence.

According to them, the number of security personnel and civilians killed in LWE violence has decreased by 90% from its peak in 2010 to 2022.

Data compiled by the Ministry of Home Affairs show that between 2004 and 2014, there were 6,984 fatalities and 17,679 LWE-related events.

In contrast, the statistics indicated that from 2014 and 2023 (as of June 15), there were 2,020 fatalities and 7,649 LWE-related events.
