<p>In relation to the suspected school employment scam, Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee has been called by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to appear before it here on November 9. This information was disclosed by a TMC leader on Wednesday. West Bengal Women and Child Welfare Minister and TMC spokesman Shashi Panja said that Banerjee would appear before the ED on Thursday. <p>The BJP, she said, engages in this kind of revenge politics in order to “harass” politicians before an important election early in the next year. According to state BJP spokesman Shamik Lahiri, the group rejects politics based on personal grudges. He said that the court is in charge of overseeing the summoning of central agencies, and the TMC may go to court if it has any issues.</p>
<p>Banerjee was previously called by the ED to appear before it on October 9, having ignored the summons on October 3 to take part in a TMC protest march in New Delhi, where he demanded the quick delivery of central monies that the state owed him. Banerjee then asserted that the questioning was an attempt to keep him from attending the INDIA’ meet and that it was evidence of the crucial role the TMC plays in fostering opposition unity. Banerjee had been questioned by the ED for almost nine hours on September 13 in connection with the teacher recruitment scam.</p>
<p>In the coal theft case, the two-term TMC MP was also questioned twice by the ED: first in the national capital in 2021 and again in Kolkata in 2022.</p>
