How India’s National Team is Avoiding Travel Fatigue During the 2023 World Cup

The Indian cricket team has traveled approximately 8,000 km from Guwahati to Pune and still has a long path to go for their remaining round-robin matches in the current 2023 World Cup. The Rohit Sharma-led squad is the first World Cup side that would traverse the whole nation for the multi-nation competition without playing more than one game at a location.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-242594″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/theindiaprint.com-aishwarya-sharma-tears-up-on-bigg-boss-17-indian-cricket-team-taking-private-chart-750×393.png” alt=”theindiaprint.com aishwarya sharma tears up on bigg boss 17 indian cricket team taking private chart” width=”1563″ height=”819″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/theindiaprint.com-aishwarya-sharma-tears-up-on-bigg-boss-17-indian-cricket-team-taking-private-chart-750×393.png 750w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/theindiaprint.com-aishwarya-sharma-tears-up-on-bigg-boss-17-indian-cricket-team-taking-private-chart-1024×536.png 1024w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/theindiaprint.com-aishwarya-sharma-tears-up-on-bigg-boss-17-indian-cricket-team-taking-private-chart-768×402.png 768w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/theindiaprint.com-aishwarya-sharma-tears-up-on-bigg-boss-17-indian-cricket-team-taking-private-chart-150×79.png 150w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/theindiaprint.com-aishwarya-sharma-tears-up-on-bigg-boss-17-indian-cricket-team-taking-private-chart.png 1200w” sizes=”(max-width: 1563px) 100vw, 1563px” title=”How India's National Team is Avoiding Travel Fatigue During the 2023 World Cup 3″>

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has provided private charters and only post-lunch departures the day following the match for the Men in Blue in order to prevent travel weariness and minimize burnout due to the demanding schedule.

The team uses private charter flights. We made sure to have just charters since the World Cup is a lengthy one and we need to take into account the travel schedule. According to a BCCI official, the flight schedules have also been carefully planned to leave around midday after the match.

When it comes to “tricky sectors” like Guwahati or Dharamsala, there are certain changes.

The official continues, “There are occasional adjustments, like via a private charter, when it comes to difficult locations like Guwahati or Dharamsala, but most charters are direct.

The lone exception to this rule was Shubman Gill, who traveled to Ahmedabad by commercial airplane in the evening while recuperating from dengue in Chennai. While the rest of his colleagues traveled to Delhi for the game against Afghanistan, he remained in Chennai.

The 24-year-old arrived in Ahmedabad late on October 11 while the rest of his squad arrived on October 12, the day following the Afghanistan match, as scheduled in the afternoon.

There hasn’t been much activity in the nets the night before either of their games. There have been crowded homes spotted two days before the game. A high-intensity open nets session was held in Pune on October 17 as well. In Chennai, two days previous to the game, there was a full house (apart from a sick Gill). The players had relaxed during the brief intervals between India’s matches against Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The only players present before the Afghanistan match were Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer, Shardul Thakur, Ravindra Jadeja, and Suryakumar Yadav. Shami was the only frontline seamer who bowled aggressively before the Pakistan match as well. R Ashwin was his bowling partner, but the side-armers and net bowlers did the most of the work.

“The day before the game is often an optional practice, so the squad prefers to relax. Rest; all sessions are carried out as directed by the medical staff. Before such sessions, the burden of each person is taken into consideration. So once again, it depends on each individual and how each person’s body feels on any given day, says the BCCI official.

not only Team India, but also other teams’ private charters.

The BCCI, who are hosting the World Cup, have made sure that all participating teams have private charters due to the rigorous travel schedule. The International Cricket Council (ICC) was in charge of getting the teams to the location of their practice match, and the BCCI took control from there.

We are also setting up private charters for other teams, not only the Indian squad. The squad had to be transported to their warm-up location, such as Guwahati, Hyderabad, or another location, by the ICC. From that point on, we took control and made sure that other teams’ trip went without a hitch. The charter’s schedule will be determined by the needs of the various teams, but it is our responsibility to make sure they have a private charter, according to the official.

The Indian cricket team has a long way to go, and even more if they advance to the semifinals, so remaining fresh will be crucial.
