192 soldiers were reported killed in the Nagorno-Karabakh offensive by Azerbaijan.

According to information released on Wednesday by the nation’s Health Ministry, 192 Azerbaijani soldiers died and 511 sustained injuries during the country’s attack in Nagorno-Karabakh last week. One Azeri citizen also perished in the fighting, it said. Officials from Nagorno-Karabakh previously said that the combat claimed the lives of at least 200 individuals on their side, including 10 civilians, and injured over 400 others.

Azerbaijan was able to regain complete authority over the breakaway territory after almost 30 years of separatist rule thanks to the military operation. More than a third of the ethnic Armenian population in the area—tens of thousands of people—have already departed. After separatist forces consented to surrender their weapons and Azerbaijan eased a 10-month blockade of the route connecting the region to Armenia, more are probably to follow.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-207267″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-law-commission-says-certain-amendments-are-needed-for-a-smooth-election-seeking-mo.jpg” alt=”theindiaprint.com law commission says certain amendments are needed for a smooth election seeking mo” width=”1296″ height=”726″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-law-commission-says-certain-amendments-are-needed-for-a-smooth-election-seeking-mo.jpg 300w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-law-commission-says-certain-amendments-are-needed-for-a-smooth-election-seeking-mo-150×84.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1296px) 100vw, 1296px” title=”192 soldiers were reported killed in the Nagorno-Karabakh offensive by Azerbaijan. 6″>

The “reintegration” of Nagorno-Karabakh and its ethnic Armenian minority into the mostly Muslim nation has been discussed in two rounds of negotiations between Azerbaijan and separatist authorities, although the specifics of how this might take place are still unknown.

Azerbaijan’s Nagorno-Karabakh territory was taken over by ethnic Armenian fighters with the support of the Armenian military during separatist conflict that concluded in 1994. Azerbaijan reclaimed portions of Nagorno-Karabakh as well as surrounding area that Armenian troops had seized during the prior conflict during a six-week battle in 2020.

The single route that connects Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia was blocked in December by Azerbaijan, which claimed that the Armenian government was utilizing it for illegal weapon shipments to the separatist forces in the area as well as the exploitation of minerals.

Armenia said that the blockade prevented the roughly 120,000 residents of Nagorno-Karabakh from receiving essential supplies of food and gasoline. Authorities in Nagorno-Karabakh have long opposed this idea, claiming it is an attempt by Azerbaijan to seize control of the area. However, Azerbaijan has long maintained that supplies could be sent to the area via the Azerbaijani city of Aghdam.

As of Wednesday morning, 42,500 individuals, or around 35% of Nagorno-Karabakh’s ethnic Armenian population, had departed for the neighboring country of Armenia. On the route connecting Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia, there were reports of hours-long traffic delays on Tuesday.

At least 68 persons were murdered on Monday night in an explosion at a petrol station close to the region’s capital Stepanakert, where residents were waiting in line to fill up their vehicles before traveling to Armenia. This is according to Gegham Stepanyan, the human rights ombudsman for Nagorno-Karabakh. He said that as of Tuesday night, 105 people were still missing and another 290 had been injured.

According to the Armenian Health Ministry, 237 injured individuals from the fighting last week and the gas station explosion on Monday were flown out of Nagorno-Karabakh by ambulance and helicopter.

The wounded are still being evacuated as they get the appropriate care, according to the ministry.
