Violence in Lakhimpur Kheri Case: SC Allows Son of Union Home Minister for State to Reside in Delhi

Ashish Mishra, who is free on interim bail in connection with the 2021 Lakhimpur Kheri violence case, had his release restrictions partly changed on Tuesday to allow him to travel to and reside in the national Capital.

Given that Mishra’s mother is a patient in a Delhi hospital and that his daughter too needs medical attention, a bench made up of Justices Surya Kant and Dipankar Datta granted the motion filed by the son of the Union Home Minister for State.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-205447″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-audio-and-video-calls-are-coming-to-x-but-only-for-certain-users-download-2023-09-.jpg” alt=”theindiaprint.com audio and video calls are coming to x but only for certain users download 2023 09″ width=”1200″ height=”674″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-audio-and-video-calls-are-coming-to-x-but-only-for-certain-users-download-2023-09-.jpg 299w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-audio-and-video-calls-are-coming-to-x-but-only-for-certain-users-download-2023-09–150×84.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px” title=”Violence in Lakhimpur Kheri Case: SC Allows Son of Union Home Minister for State to Reside in Delhi 3″>

However, the Bench ordered that Mishra refrain from speaking to the media about any ongoing sub judice matter or taking part in any public event in Delhi.

It made it clear that the current bail restriction prohibiting Mishra from visiting Uttar Pradesh (UP) other than for trial reasons will still be in effect.

When granted bail to Mishra in January of this year, the supreme court stated a number of restrictions, including that he may not remain in Uttar Pradesh or the Delhi-NCR.

Additionally, it had said that Mishra was to tell the trial court of his whereabouts and that any efforts made by him, his family, or any witness would result in the termination of his release.

Eight persons lost their lives in the violence that broke out in Tikunia, Lakhimpur Kheri district, on October 3, 2021, when farmers demonstrated against the arrival of UP Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya.

Four farmers were killed by an SUV in which Ashish Mishra was sitting, according to the UP Police FIR.
