<p>The fact that KL Rahul will be batting at number five for India at the Asia Cup shouldn’t come as a surprise, according to Indian offspinner Ravichandran Ashwin.</p>

<p>Rahul’s recovery from the thigh ailment for which he had surgery earlier this year was being discussed by Ashwin.</p>
<p>If Rahul doesn’t get fit, India, according to Ashwin, have a backup plan.</p>
<p>Sanju Samson has been chosen as a backup for him as an extra 18th member in case he is unable to become fit in time, according to Ashwin.</p>
<p>Questions have been raised over Rahul’s selection to the team for the continental tournament in Pakistan and Sri Lanka.</p>
<p>But according to Ashwin, the batsman has historically performed well for India, thus his inclusion in the team shouldn’t be questioned.</p>
<p>Ashwin said, “KL Rahul is a lock at number 5.”</p>
<p>He stated how Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni’s retirements had left India in serious need of a number five.</p>
<p>Rahul accepted the role and filled it.</p>
<p>“He is our batting and wicketkeeper. The number five slot is also a certainty if he is healthy and prepared, according to Ashwin.</p>
<p>He also discussed the hotly contested number four position and that Shreyas Iyer is a wise pick.</p>
<p>A highly reliable number 4 for India and one of the strongest players in the Indian squad against spin, according to Ashwin.</p>
