There are 10 females and 8 males among these patients, six of them are from Thane city, four from Kalyan, three from Sahapur, one from Bhiwandi, Ulhasnagar, and Govandi (all in Mumbai), one patient is from some other location, and one patient’s identity has not been disclosed, according to him.

Bangar further said that twelve of the dead were more than 50 years old.

Earlier estimates of the number of fatalities ranged from 17 to 19, according to the state health minister Tanaji Sawant and the local deputy commissioner of police Ganesh Gawde.

At a news conference, Bangar stated that Chief Minister Eknath Shinde had listened to people’s concerns and had ordered the formation of an independent investigation committee. This committee will be led by the commissioner of health services and will consist of a collector, civic chief, director of health services, interventionist at the state-run JJ Hospital in Mumbai, and civic surgeon.

In addition, it will conduct an investigation into the clinical circumstances surrounding the fatalities.

According to him, these individuals suffered a variety of problems, including kidney stones, persistent paralysis, ulcers, pneumonia, kerosene poisoning, septicemia, and so on.

“The course of treatment will be investigated, and statements from the deceased person’s next of kin and others will be recorded,” According to Bangar, the allegations of carelessness leveled by certain relatives is a serious concern, which will be looked at by the inquiry committee.

The whole workforce of COVID, which numbers 500 people, has been relocated to this hospital, and new positions have been filled in the nursing department. “We are also working toward having a post mortem facility here that is open around the clock,” he said to the press.

Earlier in the day, state health minister Sawant said that a report from the hospital’s dean was expected to be submitted within the next two days.

An official from the Thane Municipal Corporation said that an investigation into the fatalities was now underway, and a number of municipal authorities are currently present at the heavily-visited institution inspecting records and other documents.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Ganesh Gawde told the Press Trust of India, “We have information of 17 deaths in the last 24 hours.” According to what we were informed, the average number of cases each day is between six and seven.

“According to the management of the hospital, some of the patients arrived at the facility in a critical stage, and they passed away while being treated.” Some of them were rather old. Due to the high number of fatalities, we have increased the number of police officers stationed at the hospital in order to prevent any untoward incidents from occurring, the DCP stated.

Sawant, when asked about the matter, made the following statement: “Of these 17, a total of 13 were in the ICU.” A few days ago, there were five deaths among the hospital’s patients. The state administration has requested a report from the dean to be sent in within the next two days.

“Action will be done in accordance with the report that was submitted by the dean. This hospital is a component of the state agency that is responsible for medical education and research. Sawant informed reporters in Pune that the organization’s minister, Hasan Mushrif, had arrived to the hospital and was investigating the situation there.

Sharad Pawar, the chairman of the Nationalist Congress Party, described the deaths as “heartbreaking” and said that the government did not wake up despite the fact that five people had died at the hospital in a single day lately.

Girish Mahajan, a BJP politician and minister in Maharashtra, said that it was concerning that “16 deaths” occurred in a single day in a facility that had the ability to treat 500 patients.

Jitendra Awhad, a leader of the NCP in the area who also serves as an MLA, said that the hospital was poorly administered and urged the authorities to put things in order before it was too late.

State minister Aditi Tatkare, who visited the hospital, referred to the fatalities as being terrible and said that the government of Maharashtra would make every effort to guarantee that an incidence of this kind does not occur again.

Clyde Crasto, a spokesman for the Nationalist Congress Party, demanded a comprehensive investigation into the fatalities.

According to Crasto, Chief Minister Shinde is a resident of Thane, and the medical malpractice that led to these fatalities took occurred in his backyard (Thane is the stronghold of Shinde).

This demonstrates that Shinde is not paying attention to Thane, and the NCP leader said that this is because Shinde is “probably so busy in breaking and forming governments that he has no time for his own people.”

State NCP president Jayant Patil was also critical of CM Shinde, claiming that the latter talked about “government at your doorstep” but that there was a shortage of medical services in his own backyard. Patil is the leader of the NCP in the state.

Naresh Mhakse, a former mayor of Thane who is now the spokesman for the Shiv Sena under the leadership of Eknath Shinde, said that the hospital was “overloaded” and that it was serving 650 patients per day despite having a capacity of just 500.

Mhaske claimed that since the local municipal hospital is undergoing renovations at the moment, the burden has been placed on this institution in Kalwa.

Meanwhile, hospital sources said that several of the facility’s physicians had come ill with dengue, which was having a negative impact on the facility’s operations.

Avinash Jadhav, a local leader of the MNS, was interested in finding proactive ways to enhance the functioning of the hospital.
