The ambitious 33.5-kilometer-long Mumbai Metro Line-3 project would strategically link some of the city’s busiest and most crowded areas. With a massive network of 26 subterranean stations and one at-grade stop, this metro line will connect the Cuffe Parade commercial sector in the extreme south of the city to SEEPZ in the north-central region.

It is crucial to remember that Line-3, which will be Mumbai’s first underground metro line, will represent a critical turning point for the city. Additionally, it will be one of the longest uninterrupted subterranean segments in the nation.

The famous French manufacturer Alstom was given a big contract by the MMRCL in September 2018 for around 315 million euros. Alstom has been given the responsibility of providing 248 metro cars for Mumbai Metro Line-3 under the terms of this contract. The contract calls for the creation, delivery, and commissioning of 31 eight-car contemporary passenger trainsets that are light and completely equipped.

Mumbai Metro Line 3 Features of Metro Cars

These metro vehicles will be notable for their remarkable 75 percent motorization, which will allow for quick acceleration and deceleration and guarantee increased operating efficiency. In addition, this project will be Mumbai’s first foray into the world of unattended train operation (UTO), after Delhi Line-7 and 8, which introduced this cutting-edge technology to India.

The entire planning and development of the metro vehicles is now being done at the Bangalore engineering center of Alstom. The 248 metro cars are simultaneously produced in a cutting-edge rolling stock production facility at Sri City, Chennai.

Mumbai Metro Line-3’s development is now moving along well, with over 87 percent of the work having finished. The metro line is projected to be operationalized in phases, with the first phase between BKC and SEEPZ anticipated to welcome the public by the end of this year.

The arrival of the new trainsets takes Mumbai one step closer to a more effective and comfortable transit network as the city excitedly anticipates the start of Mumbai Metro Line-3. This forthcoming metro line is expected to transform Mumbai’s commute thanks to its broad coverage and cutting-edge features.
