Under the cover of “freedom-fighting,” Pakistan endorses terrorism and attempts to connect Kashmir with Palestine

Pakistan has defended terrorism by claiming that it is “legitimate” when “people living under foreign occupation” use it, and it has attempted to conflate Kashmir with Palestine.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-251356″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/theindiaprint.com-under-the-cover-of-freedom-fighting-pakistan-endorses-terrorism-and-attempts-to-co.jpg” alt=”theindiaprint.com under the cover of freedom fighting pakistan endorses terrorism and attempts to co” width=”939″ height=”703″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/theindiaprint.com-under-the-cover-of-freedom-fighting-pakistan-endorses-terrorism-and-attempts-to-co.jpg 259w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/theindiaprint.com-under-the-cover-of-freedom-fighting-pakistan-endorses-terrorism-and-attempts-to-co-150×112.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 939px) 100vw, 939px” title=”Under the cover of "freedom-fighting," Pakistan endorses terrorism and attempts to connect Kashmir with Palestine 3″>

India “with contempt” rejected the statements made before the UN Security Council on Tuesday.

The union territories, which are essential components of my nation, were mentioned in passing by one delegation, according to India’s deputy permanent representative R. Ravindra. In order to save time, I shall disregard these orders and refrain from responding to them in any way.

Pakistan brings up the Kashmir issue before the UN regardless of the subject matter, yet it is ignored.

According to Islamabad’s Permanent Representative Munir Akram, “under international law, the struggle of people living under foreign occupation for self-determination and national liberation is legitimate and cannot be equated with terrorism,” even though Pakistan “condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.”

He seemed to take a shot at the US and other nations that had helped India when it was the target of terrorist assaults from Pakistan or Israel when terrorism attacked the country from multiple directions.

“Some in this council have offered protection to their allies who are oppressing the occupied people in Palestine and Kashmir,” he remarked.

Earlier, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken made reference to the 26/11 Mumbai assault and specifically addressed the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), while also stating that the General Assembly and the Council “have repeatedly affirmed, all acts of terrorism are unlawful and unjustifiable.”

According to Akram, “under the UN Charter, states have the right of self-defense against attacks on their sovereignty and territorial integrity.” However, “a state that is in forcible occupation of a foreign territory cannot invoke the right to self-defense against those whose territory it has illegally occupied.”

The approval of an international treaty against terrorism that was suggested by India has been hampered by the flimsy reasoning of Pakistan and some other nations that terrorists who are considered by that country to be “freedom fighters” are not terrorists.

Any effort to unfairly compare Israel, the occupying power, to the Palestinians, who are the victims of this occupation, is unsustainable from a legal, moral, and political standpoint, according to Akram.

While passionately denouncing Israel’s airstrikes on Gaza, which is controlled by Hamas, Akram did not denounce Hamas for its terrorist assaults against Israelis, which resulted in the deaths of 1,400 people—the majority of them civilians—and the taking of more than 200 hostages.

Akram again criticized Washington, this time without name it, for its rejection of Council resolutions requesting a humanitarian halt or a truce in the Israel-Hamas war.

He said, “We regret that the Security Council has not been able to call for a ceasefire.

“Those who contribute to the escalation of this conflict bear a heavy burden of responsibility.”
