According to reports, the student attended NIT Hamirpur’s annual “Hilfare” celebration on Friday, came home late that night, and then went to bed. Sujan did not reply when efforts were made to rouse him up for breakfast the next morning, so police were informed right away. A team from the health department and district police officers hurried over to the school to start an investigation. At the Hamirpur Medical College, a post-mortem examination will be conducted on the dead.

DSP Rohin Dogra and SP Dr. Aakriti Sharma of Hamirpur were also on the spot to respond to the incident’s investigations. In connection with the ongoing police investigation, the dead student’s roommates are now being questioned. In addition, there is a great deal of discussion inside the institution regarding whether the horrible incident was likely related to drug abuse.

At the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, a fourth-year electrical engineering student is said to have committed himself earlier this month. Over the last few years, there has been an uptick in student suicide instances, with IITs reporting the highest number of such incidents over the past five years. According to information released by the education ministry, at least 39 of the 98 suicide deaths in India’s top universities between 2018 and 2023 occurred at IITs. There has been an increase in student suicide cases not just at IITs but also in Kota, the nation’s coaching center, where over 26 cases have been recorded this year.
