<p>During his visit to Punjab today, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Shri Nitin Gadkari reviewed the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Greenfield Expressway (DAK) and the Amritsar Bypass. <p>In Punjab, five economic and greenfield corridors are being constructed for a total of Rs 29,000 crore. The cost of constructing this 669 km greenfield highway connecting Delhi, Amritsar, and Katra is Rs 40,000 crore. With its construction, it will take 4 hours to go from Delhi to Amritsar and 6 hours to travel from Delhi to Katra. The current distance between Delhi and Katra is 727 km; after this road is built, the distance would be cut in half by 58 km.</p>
<p>This highway is being developed in Haryana for 137 kilometers starting from KMP near Delhi. This highway in Punjab is 399 km long, of which 296 km have begun construction. In Jammu and Kashmir, the expressway is 135 km long, 120 km of which are under construction. These industrial hubs in Punjab include Patiala, Sangrur, Malerkotla, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, and Gurudaspur.</p>
<p>Asia’s longest cable-stayed bridge across the Beas River, measuring 1300 meters in length, is a notable feature of this route. The Golden Temple, Sultanpur Lodhi Gurdwara in the Kapurthala district, Goindwal Sahib Gurdwara, Khandur Sahib Gurdwara, Gurdwara Darbar Sahib (Taran Taran), and Mata Darbar Vaishno Devi in Katra will all be connected by this expressway as well as other important Sikh holy sites.</p>
<p>Construction of the 50 km, 4-lane Amritsar bypass, which would cost Rs 1475 crore, is now under way. Its building would improve communication between Tarn Taran and the Amritsar Airport. The traffic issue in Amritsar would be effectively solved by this bypass. Amritsar’s infrastructure, transportation, and connection will all be improved via this route.</p>
