According to the US Geological Survey, the epicenter of the most recent earthquake was eight kilometers (five miles) below the surface and around 34 kilometers (21 miles) away from Herat, the province seat.

According to Farhad Afzali, a doctor at the Herat hospital, tremors in the Herat region of western Afghanistan resulted in at least one death and 90 injuries on Sunday.

According to a hospital spokesman, there may be more casualties.

According to locals, the earthquakes in the area have destroyed almost 30 communities.

One of the most severe earthquakes in the nation’s recent history, the quakes on October 7 completely destroyed whole communities in Herat.

According to a UN report released on Thursday, women and children made up more than 90% of those slain a week ago.

More than 2,000 people were murdered throughout the region, according to Taliban authorities, in the previous quakes. According to U.N. statistics, the epicenter occurred in the Zenda Jan area, where 1,294 people killed, 1,688 were wounded, and every house was damaged.

Villages were completely crushed by the original quake, multiple aftershocks, and a second 6.3-magnitude quake on Wednesday. Hundreds of mud-brick houses that could not endure such intensity were destroyed. Schools, medical institutions, and other local buildings were all destroyed.

After the destruction, the settlements on the arid hills were mostly reduced to ruins and funerals. In many communities, volunteers who came to explore the rubble and excavate mass graves outweigh the remaining people, who are still trying to cope with the death of many family members.
