Constitutional violation for disrespecting Sanatan Dharma: Union Minister says Cong hasn’t made a decision

Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal said on Sunday that utterances from people like KC Venugopal and Karti Chidambaram failed to succinctly convey or define the Congress’s position on the matter amid the explosive political aftermath of DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin’s remarks against Sanatan Dharma.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-189842″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-constitutional-violation-for-disrespecting-sanatan-dharma-union-minister-says-cong.jpg” alt=”theindiaprint.com constitutional violation for disrespecting sanatan dharma union minister says cong” width=”1238″ height=”824″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-constitutional-violation-for-disrespecting-sanatan-dharma-union-minister-says-cong.jpg 275w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-constitutional-violation-for-disrespecting-sanatan-dharma-union-minister-says-cong-150×100.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1238px) 100vw, 1238px” title=”Constitutional violation for disrespecting Sanatan Dharma: Union Minister says Cong hasn't made a decision 15″>

Meghwal remarked in an interview with ANI on Sunday that the remarks made by people like KC Venugopal, Karti Chidambaram, and Mallikarjun Kharge’s son (Priyank Kharge) “do not clearly spell out the Congress’s position on Sanatan Dharma.” We think that those who occupy constitutional positions need to show respect for all faiths. It is against the law to disrespect the Sanatan Dharma.

Earlier, Venugopal entered the Sanatan controversy, asserting that his party upholds the notion of “Sarva Dharma Samabhava” (equality of all faiths). He had remarked, “We respect all religions.”

“Our position on this issue is clear. The philosophy of the Congress has always been “Sarva Dharma Samabhava.” Each political party is allowed to express its views on many issues. We accept everyone’s right to their own religious convictions, he added.

“Any religion that does not promote equality or does not treat you like humans is as good as a disease,” Priyank Kharge remarked in response to Udhayanidhi’s criticism of Sanatan Dharma.

“In my opinion, any religion that does not support equality or guarantee that you have the dignity that comes with being a person is not a religion. Any religion that doesn’t treat people fairly or like humans is just as bad as a sickness, Priyank Kharge said.

After a FIR was filed over Priyank Kharge’s remarks, he stated that he adheres to the Constitution and had not intended to offend anyone’s religious sensibilities.

“My remarks did not disparage any faith. Any religion that denigrates other people is not a religion, as I already said. The Constitution is my faith, and I abide by it. It is entirely up to them whether they want to report me to the police or want to detain me. I don’t really care,” he said.
