According to Stalin, TN would send a delegation to the Jal Shakti Minister for Cauvery Water

According to Chief Minister M K Stalin on Saturday, all party representatives from Tamil Nadu would deliver a message to Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat requesting that the federal government tell Karnataka to give Cauvery water to the state.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-186077″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-parineeti-chopra-a-bride-to-be-is-irate-withpapfor-recording-her-video-download-20.jpg” alt=”theindiaprint.com parineeti chopra a bride to be is irate withpapfor recording her video download 20″ width=”1122″ height=”561″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-parineeti-chopra-a-bride-to-be-is-irate-withpapfor-recording-her-video-download-20.jpg 318w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-parineeti-chopra-a-bride-to-be-is-irate-withpapfor-recording-her-video-download-20-150×75.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1122px) 100vw, 1122px” title=”According to Stalin, TN would send a delegation to the Jal Shakti Minister for Cauvery Water 24″>

Stalin said that Karnataka’s objections to the delivery of water to Tamil Nadu that have been sent to the Center are “flawed” and “unsubstantiated” and should not be taken into consideration. He also added that this element will be included in the memorandum. The group will be led by Duraimurugan, the Minister of Water Resources for Tamil Nadu.

Karnataka was accused by the chief minister of making unfounded allegations and of opposing Tamil Nadu’s plea for water in a letter to the center. Tamil Nadu’s demand for water, according to claims from Karnataka, is unjust since it has “increased its ayacut (area under irrigation).” Shekhawat received a letter from Karnataka on September 13 indicating that the state’s Cauvery delta had the sufficient groundwater and that Tamil Nadu will get enough water during the northeast monsoon. Stalin said that such a viewpoint is erroneous and that the Center should not take it into account.

The CWRA (Cauvery Water Regulatory Authority) has calculated the rainfall projection. The India Meteorological Department has expected normal rainfall in Karnataka’s Cauvery catchment districts for 15 days starting on September 13. Shekhawat is advised to suggest to the Cauvery Water Management Authority that Karnataka give 12,500 cusecs to Tamil Nadu.

The Central Minister will also be asked to urge Karnataka to give water to Tamil Nadu in accordance with the CWMA and CWRC’s instructions.

Duraimurugan will deliver the document to Shekhawat with the assistance of the MPs, pleading with the Center to urge Karnataka to release the designated quantity of Cauvery water at the appointed period.

Stalin said in a rain-deficit year, the water should be divided among states on a “pro rata” basis, citing the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal and the Supreme Court judgements.

Tamil Nadu must have earned 103.5 tmc ft (thousand million cubic feet) this year as of September 14. The state, however, has only received 38.4 tmc ft, leaving a gap of 65.1 tmc ft.
