<p>According to Jaishankar, the Group of 20 (G-20) was created with the Global South’s agenda at its center because, in India’s opinion, its concerns were not adequately represented on the international stage despite the “deep distress” that these nations experienced as a result of first the Covid-19 pandemic and then the disruptions brought on by the Ukraine War.</p>
<p>India has become the developing world’s most influential voice on the global stage. One of the accomplishments of India’s G20 leadership is seen to be the awarding of permanent membership to the African Union (AU).</p>
<p>Speaking to the media on the first day of the G20 Summit, Jaishankar said that the G20’s developing markets joined forces to work diligently to reach an understanding over the Ukraine War.</p>
<p>The G20 members released the G20 New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration after the first day of discussions, which is seen as a notable accomplishment of the Indian presidency given that the group includes Russia and China, who have quite different views on the Ukraine War from the West. It is thought that the unanimous release of a unified statement represents a victory for the Indian president.</p>
<p>India’s G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant elaborated on Jaishankar’s remark by stating that Indonesia, Brazil, and South Africa joined forces with India to make substantial contributions to the consensus-building process.</p>
