“I met with representatives from oil firms to talk about renewable energy. The state government would encourage the installation of charging stations wherever there are petrol outlets, according to Sawant.

In order to encourage more people to purchase EVs, he stated, “we have resolved the issue of charging rates for customers and have decided to create infrastructure with the help of the private sector.”

Sawant has said that his administration has recommended making it a requirement that all new tourist cars be electric starting in January 2019.

Additionally, he had said that starting in January 2024, all government agencies must acquire EVs.

The Indian government has undertaken several initiatives to promote the usage of electric cars and reduce the carbon footprint of transportation. The National Mission on Electric Mobility seeks to establish a local manufacturing ecosystem and upgrade the charging infrastructure, according to Sawant.

Additionally, he had said that by June 2024, it will be necessary for permit holders that operate several tourist taxis, rent-a-bike companies, and rent-a-cab companies to convert 30% of their fleet to electric vehicles.

To support the EV ecosystem in Goa, the state government created the Goa Electric Mobility Promotion Policy 2021 and the EV Concessional Charging Infrastructure Policy 2021.
