Colombia defeats Venezuela in the inaugural World Cup qualifier thanks to Santos Borre’s heroics

<p>After a tedious first half, Santos Borre scored less than a minute into the second half at Barranquilla’s Estadio Metropolitano, according to Xinhua.</p>
<p>After Jhon Arias’ cross from the right side, the Werder Bremen striker timed his move to perfectly, leaping acrobatically and sending a powerful header beyond goalkeeper Rafael Romo.</p>
<p>With just 29% of the possession and 2 shots on target, Venezuela did nothing to put the Cafeteros’ defense in danger.</p>
<p>Peru held Paraguay to a scoreless draw in Asuncion on Thursday in another South American qualifying match.</p>
