Kunbi Marathas get quota instructions from Maha, and Jarange-Patil is urged to end his hunger strike

The Maharashtra government ordered on Thursday that anyone who have formal confirmation of their Kunbi caste (OBC) status from the “Nizam era” be awarded Kunbi caste certificates, marking a major advancement.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-165470″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-kunbi-marathas-get-quota-instructions-from-maha-and-jarange-patil-is-urged-to-end-.jpg” alt=”theindiaprint.com kunbi marathas get quota instructions from maha and jarange patil is urged to end” width=”1238″ height=”824″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-kunbi-marathas-get-quota-instructions-from-maha-and-jarange-patil-is-urged-to-end-.jpg 275w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-kunbi-marathas-get-quota-instructions-from-maha-and-jarange-patil-is-urged-to-end–150×100.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1238px) 100vw, 1238px” title=”Kunbi Marathas get quota instructions from Maha, and Jarange-Patil is urged to end his hunger strike 3″>

As a result, Manoj Jarange-Patil, who has been on a 10-day hunger strike in Jalna, would likely have one of his demands—that Marathas with documentation of their membership in the Kunbi Caste—fulfilled and be eligible for OBC quota.

The state government simultaneously sent Jarange-Patil a letter request urging him to end his hunger strike right now since the administration had publicized the directives.

Jarange-Patil’s reaction to the GR is yet unknown, but it will probably become obvious later today.

With the directives and the appeal, a representative of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde will soon visit Jarange-Patil in an effort to put a stop to the 10-day protest that began in Jalna on August 29 and expanded across the state after a police crackdown there on September 1.

The OBC quotas would be available to people who held paperwork from the 1960s, during the Nizam rule, which classed Marathas as “Kunbis,” according to an announcement made by Shinde on Wednesday.
