Northeast Frontier Railway seizes contraband worth Rs. 1.64 crore

<p>During this raid, six others were also detained for their claimed participation in the smuggling enterprise.</p>
<p>On August 25, 2023, when the RPF stationed at Dimapur Railway Station conducted a comprehensive inspection, the most recent occurrence took place.</p>
<p>They found an unsecured bag with a secret hoard of 550 grams of brown sugar as a result of their diligence.</p>
<p>This illegal merchandise has a stunning market value of Rs. 1.10 crore. 50 soap cases had been used to hide the illegal drug. The Government Railway Police (GRP) Officer in Charge at Dimapur was then given the seized Brown Sugar so that it could be properly disposed of.</p>
<p>On August 23, 2023, the day before the seizure, the RPF and GRP in Agartala worked together to make another important development.</p>
<p>At the Agartala train station, a combined operation was conducted on the Kanchanjungha Express, train number 13173 UP.</p>
<p>Three people were detained while the inspection was being conducted. In addition to the arrests, law enforcement officers confiscated 788 bottles of cough medicine, with a total estimated worth of Rs. 1.38 lakhs.</p>
<p>The Officer in Charge of the GRP in Agartala was then given the detained people and the seized cough syrup so that the required legal actions could be taken.</p>
<p>The RPF of N. F. Railway performed targeted inspections and operations on August 23 and 24, 2023, to continue the campaign against contraband smuggling. Authorities were able to confiscate 936 bottles of cough syrup worth around Rs. 1.64 lakhs and 10,200 kg of areca nuts, valued at roughly Rs. 51 lakhs.</p>
<p>In addition, 48 liquor bottles worth around Rs. 7440.00 were also seized from different trains and stations.</p>
<p>There were 434 instances of smuggled items and illegally transported contraband discovered between January and July of 2023. This resulted in the seizure of illegal products worth more than Rs. 13.36 crore. Additionally, about 250 people were detained for taking part in these illegal actions within the same time period.</p>
