Four people were arrested in Thane on suspicion of rape and child molestation

An official said on Wednesday that police had filed a complaint against four people after a 17-year-old girl in Maharashtra’s Thane district claimed that they had raped, assaulted, and intimidated her.

It said that the accused’s relatives, who were acquainted with the child’s family, seized custody of the kid and her brother earlier this year.

According to the FIR, the accused reportedly continuously molested and raped the child over the course of two months, and when she protested, they threatened to send her back to the orphanage.

The child and her brother were reportedly pushed by the accused’s family to become Muslims. It said that they had been brought to a dargah in Uttan where a’moulavi’ had conducted some rites and given them meat to eat.

The teenager reported the harassment to the police after becoming tired of it, the official added.

In accordance with Indian Penal Code sections 376, 376(2)(n) (rape), 298 (uttering, words, etc. with deliberate intent to wound religious feelings of any person), 354 (assault or criminal force against a woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 506 (criminal intimidation), 34 (common intention), and provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the police filed the case against four individuals on August 10.

According to the FIR, the defendants have been named as Shain Rais Khan, Abuhid Khan, Nukshat Khan, and Nikhat Merchant.

The police said that no arrests have been made so far and that an investigation is ongoing.
