“Our troops challenged the intruder, but he did not stop and continued moving forward toward border fencing,” an officer told HT. BSF forces opened fire on the miscreant in self-defense after sensing a danger and to put an end to future mischief.

A group of top BSF personnel from the national capital also traveled to Punjab to inspect the security measures in place at the international boundary.

Nitin Agarwal, director general of the Force, met with border guards from Punjab.

There have been two such occurrences near the Punjab border during the previous four days. A Pakistani infiltrator who attempted to infiltrate Indian territory was shot down by BSF soldiers on August 11 near Thehkalan hamlet in Tarn Taran district.

Punjab has been put on high alert in honor of Independence Day and is being constantly watched by the Border Security Force and Police for any suspicious movements in addition to drones crossing the border.
