Rainfall in Uttarakhand floods Rishikesh homes, 20 people are saved

<p>The SDRF team utilized rafts to rescue 20 individuals and transport them to a safe location after receiving information that people were stranded in their homes that were inundated owing to waterlogging in the Seema Dental region, the force said in a statement on Monday.</p>

<p>In the meanwhile, SDRF crews conducted rescue operations all through the night in Rishikesh neighborhoods such Kharasrot, IDPL Colony, Laxmanjhula area, Ambagh, and Bhogpur.</p>

<p>Since Sunday, Uttarakhand has seen torrential rains that have impacted daily life in a number of districts, including Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Pauri, and Dehradun.</p>

<p>The State is experiencing waterlogging in a number of locations.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Six persons, including a pregnant lady, were rescued by SDRF from a home in the Raiwala neighborhood of the Dehradun district that had been flooded by the overflowing Song river. The expectant mother was sent to a nearby hospital.</p>

<p>Following significant rains, the situation is dire in several areas of the state.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Manikant Mishra, commandant of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), oversaw an ongoing rescue effort for a family buried in rubble in Garud Chatti, Pauri Garhwal.</p>

<p>In the meanwhile, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami met with authorities at a high level on Monday to assess the state’s various relief and rescue activities.</p>

<p>In six districts of the state, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday issued a red warning and forecast severe rain and lightning for the next twenty-four hours.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>IMD predicts that today will see isolated areas of very heavy to very heavy rain, thunderstorms with lightning, and very strong to extremely severe spells in Dehradun, Pauri, Tehri, Nainital, Champawat, and Udham Singh Nagar.</p>

<p>According to Ashok Kumar, DGP for Uttarakhand, significant rains have been falling in the State since August 12, particularly in the Garhwal region.</p>

<p>“The police and SDRF team are on alert and the roads are restricted everywhere. There was a cloudburst in the Chamoli and Uttarkashi Mori region. There is extreme waterlogging in Rishikesh. We ask everyone to refrain from visiting mountainous areas, the DGP added.</p>

<p>The late-night torrential rains at Mayapur of Nagar Panchayat Pipalkoti of Chamoli caused significant damage.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Earlier, debris from a landslide caused by sporadic rains in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand’s Pipalkoti region obstructed the Badrinath National Highway. The rubble has also buried a number of automobiles.</p>

<p>According to Chamoli District Magistrate Himanshu Khurana, “Many cars were buried beneath the rubble and the roads were stopped due to heavy debris falling from the mountain near Pipalkoti. There is currently no information available about casualties or property loss.</p>

<p>“Some portion of the road has been damaged due to heavy debris near Pipalkoti on the Badrinath National Highway,” Chamoli Police Uttarakhand stated in a tweet.</p>

<p>According to Chamoli DM Himanshu Khurana, Mayapur of Nagar Panchayat Pipalkoti has suffered significant damage as a result of the recent rains.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The destruction on Sunday night at Mayapur Gadora along the Chamoli Badrinath National Highway wrecked havoc in the Mayapur market. The sporadic rains are said to have caused a lot of automobiles in Mayapur to be buried beneath rubble, according to Chamoli DM.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Water from the Nandakini River invaded homes in Rishikesh’s Kumartoli neighborhood due to the nonstop rain.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>On Sunday night in Pipalkoti in the Chamoli district, drain water made its way inside of businesses.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Rudraprayag Police have in the meanwhile issued instructions urging people to avoid needless travel.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>“Avoid going to the river banks as the Mandakini and Alaknanda rivers that flow through the Rudraprayag region have become fierce due to the nonstop rain.” Avoid excessive travel if it’s not required since numerous roads are blocked by the rain, Rudraprayag Police in Uttarakhand tweeted.</p>

<p>The Alaknanda River has beyond the danger point and is in full flood.</p>

<p>Srinagar Kotwal Ravi Saini of Uttarakhand said, “In view of the rising water level of the river, the police have been alerting the people since night, and the residents of the houses built on the banks of the river are being alerted.”</p>
<p> </p>
<p>52 individuals were killed in rain-related events, according to an earlier government estimate, and another 37 people were wounded. Authorities in Uttarakhand reported that flash floods and landslides were caused by heavy rainfall in a number of locations.</p>
