<p>In her complaint, the married 37-year-old lady claimed: “Five to six individuals grabbed me and began verbally insulting and hitting me. I resisted, but was forced to the ground.</p>

<p>“After that, they began attacking me sexually… They violently pressed their fingers into my private area. My calls for assistance were unanswered, and nobody offered any assistance.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>They were afterwards joined by a few additional males. I went into unconsciousness at that point. When I came to later, I found myself inside a home with several Meitei people inside.</p>

<p>The lady from Churachandpur district reported the event on May 3—the day when ethnic violence broke out in the northeastern state—and submitted the FIR and a second, in-depth complaint on Thursday at the Bishnupur women’s police station.</p>

<p>The non-tribal lady said that on May 3, while she, her family, and neighbors attempted to evacuate from their homes in Churachandpur, one of Manipur’s most affected districts due to the current unrest, she was violently abused and gang-raped.</p>

<p>After the filing of the FIR, a medical examination of the victim was done.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The women’s police station in Bishnupur referred the case to the Churachandpur police station for further investigation, according to the Imphal police.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>“I began sprinting away from the scene with my sister-in-law while carrying my niece on my back and holding my two boys. She was racing ahead of me while simultaneously carrying a baby on her back.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>I had raced approximately half a kilometer from my house when I tripped, fell on the ground, and was unable to get up. The lawsuit said, “My sister-in-law came back racing towards me, snatched up my niece from my back, and escaped with my two boys.</p>

<p>The victim said that she delayed disclosing the assault to protect her family’s honor and dignity as well as their ability to avoid social exclusion.</p>

<p>Both the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Science and the Regional Institute of Medical Science in Imphal treated the lady.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>“Now that I have begun to realize the anguish and suffering I went through as a result of the horrible acts done against me without any of my responsibility, I have chosen to come forward and make this complaint. The perpetrators of the most heinous physical and sexual attack on me should get adequate punishment.</p>

<p>I feel morally obligated to disclose this heinous crime, therefore I’m exposing my experience and all the details,” the lady said.</p>

<p>On May 4, a horrifying video of two women being paraded nude on a road by a gang of men in Manipur went viral on social media, prompting widespread outrage and demands for action throughout the country.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Nine of the alleged offenders who appear in the video have already been detained.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>On this matter, the Supreme Court had also criticized the Manipur administration.</p>
