Lawyer Sudhir Tripathi, who is defending the Hindu side, disclosed that during the current Archaeological examination of India (ASI) examination at the Gyanvapi Mosque complex in Varanasi, a rare discovery was made: fragments of idols rather than whole idols. This find has raised the possibility that more research might turn up old idols that would provide insight on the site’s historical importance.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-113519″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/theindiaprint.com-fragmented-idol-remains-found-by-asi-survey-at-gyanvapi-mosque-complex-download-2023-08-05t175330.858.jpg” alt=”” width=”1171″ height=”681″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/theindiaprint.com-fragmented-idol-remains-found-by-asi-survey-at-gyanvapi-mosque-complex-download-2023-08-05t175330.858.jpg 294w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/theindiaprint.com-fragmented-idol-remains-found-by-asi-survey-at-gyanvapi-mosque-complex-download-2023-08-05t175330.858-150×87.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1171px) 100vw, 1171px” />

The examination, which on Saturday was mostly focused on the ablution area and the space where Muslims prayed, was restarted to determine if the 17th-century mosque was built over the remains of a Hindu temple. As part of their all-day study, the ASI team meticulously carried out imaging and mapping of the mosque complex’s central dome, according to media sources.

The Supreme Court declined to postpone the Allahabad High Court’s decision for the probe, which has drawn a lot of attention to the legal procedures surrounding the ASI survey. The survey’s Muslim critics voiced worry that it may reignite old scars. In order to balance the interests of all parties concerned, the top court gave orders for the ASI team to abstain from utilizing intrusive procedures during the survey in response to these concerns.

The ASI crew made a significant entrance into the basement, which is now owned by the Vyas family, during the day-long inspection, raising hopes for further discoveries to be unearthed.
