Typhoon Doksuri brings deadly landslides to the Philippines before making landfall in China

Typhoon Doksuri brought devastating landslides to the Philippines before making landfall in China. On Friday morning, the storm struck the eastern province of Fujian after battering areas of Taiwan with gale-force winds and torrential rain, particularly the Penghu island group, commonly known as the Pescadores.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-100440″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/theindiaprint.com-download-54.jpg” alt=”” width=”1486″ height=”1113″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/theindiaprint.com-download-54.jpg 259w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/theindiaprint.com-download-54-150×112.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1486px) 100vw, 1486px” />

39 people died in the Philippines during a week of harsh weather on the major island of Luzon, including 26 people who perished when a passenger ship capsized. According to disaster response authorities, at least 13 people were confirmed dead earlier as a result of Doksuri’s assault, largely from landslides, water, and downed trees.

According to disaster response authorities, at than 20 people are still missing, including four coast guard members whose boat capsized during a rescue effort in the severely damaged Cagayan region. At the height of the assault, the storm forced the suspension of work, courses, and sea transport, according to authorities, who also noted that they were keeping an eye on another storm that was headed in that direction. The storm also caused extensive power outages and agricultural damage in the archipelagic nation.

Through social media announcements and SMS messaging, China has improved its typhoon readiness. More than 400,000 people had been relocated to safety in Fujian, hundreds of ships had docked, and transit had been disrupted.

Additionally, businesses and summer school were shut down, and the general population was advised to remain indoors. A sports stadium’s roof was partly ripped off in the city of Quanzhou, although no casualties were immediately reported.

Most typhoons that make landfall in southern China tend to weaken as they move inland, however they sometimes linger over certain regions, dumping torrential rain.
