Republican Senate leader McConnell stops moving during a news conference

<p>Mitch McConnell, the minority leader of the US Senate, froze at a press conference but afterwards assured reporters that he was “fine”. <p>The 81-year-old Kentucky Republican abruptly ended his comments on Wednesday at his normally scheduled weekly press conference on Capitol Hill, according to CNN.</p>
<p>After a brief 30-second break, his coworkers gathered over to check on him and inquire about “how he felt” and if “he was OK”.</p>

<p>Republican John Barrasso of Wyoming was spotted clutching McConnell’s arm and speaking in a low voice, asking him, “Hey Mitch, anything more you want to say? Should we just return to your office, or what? Would you want to address the media with anything else?</p>
<p>He remained silent as a staff member took him away from the news conference and into his office.</p>
<p>A few minutes later, he made his way back to the press conference.</p>
<p>McConnell said, “No, I’m fine,” when asked by a CNN reporter whether the development was connected to his fall earlier this year.</p>
<p>McConnell’s assistant claimed that the senator “felt lightheaded and stepped away for a moment” in a statement later in the day.</p>
<p>According to the assistant, “He came back to handle Q and A, which as everyone observed was sharp,” according to CNN.</p>
<p>The Senate Republican leader told reporters as he departed the Capitol that he was “fine” and that he had talked with President Joe Biden.</p>
<p>“The president then phoned to see how I was doing. He referred to Biden falling over a sandbag last month as “being sandbagged” and added, “I told him I was sandbagged.</p>
<p>At a private dinner gathering in March, McConnell stumbled and subsequently had to be hospitalized for treatment of a concussion and a slight rib fracture.</p>
<p>McConnell was chosen to the Senate for the first time in 1984 and is now serving his seventh term.</p>
