Prior to the CSK vs. GT game, Fleming made the enormous "back to back championships" remark: "Massive appreciation for what Nehra has done "

On Sunday night, the 2023 Indian Premier League championship game will take place between the Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans. A fifth IPL championship would tie the Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led club with the Mumbai Indians, who are presently the most successful group in the history of the competition. In fact, only CSK and MI have won the IPL championship twice. CSK won the championship in 2010 and 2011, while MI accomplished the feat in the 2019 and 2020 seasons.
Although CSK head coach Stephen Fleming thinks it would be “very, very hard” for the Hardik Pandya-led club to reach the milestone, the Titans will be attempting to become the third team to accomplish it.
“So difficult! It is impossible and will be very difficult for them (GT) to do (laughs). In the pre-game news conference on Saturday, Fleming remarked, “No, they are a good side; you need to say'really well done' to what they have put together in a short amount of time.
“I truly like the coaching staff; they are all really well-rounded men. Despite all of his talking, Ashish has a solid understanding of the game, and after working with him in Chennai, his excitement is really strong. We really admire what they have accomplished, but going back to back is quite difficult.
Interestingly, Gujarat Titans team director Vikram Solanki also gave back the courtesy, although he noted that being familiar with the circumstances at their “home ground” could help them.
“We have gained a lot from the experience of playing here, competing in the final here (last year), and winning those significant matches. It has improved us, he said.
“We are really grateful for the respect CSK has shown. We honour the fact that they have been a fantastic team for a significant amount of time. We are certain; whatever happens today will happen today, said Solanki.
