Manipur lifts the curfew in Churachandpur for a few hours so that residents may purchase necessities

In order to enable residents to purchase necessities like food and medication, the three-hour complete curfew that had previously prevented anybody from leaving their houses would be lifted in the violent Manipur district of Churachandpur on Sunday morning.
It said that from 7 am to 10 am, the curfew imposed by Section 144 of the CrPC will be reduced.
On Saturday from 3 to 5 p.m., the curfew was likewise loosened for those two hours.
The curfew will be partially relaxed as per the details shared below (sic), the state's chief minister N Biren Singh tweeted late on Saturday. “With the law and order situation improving in Churachandpur district and after talks were held between the state government and various stakeholders, I'm pleased to share that the curfew will be partially relaxed as per the details shared below (sic),” he added.
The curfew was implemented on May 3 as a result of violent skirmishes between tribal people and the majority Meitei population, which have so far resulted in thousands of people being displaced and at least 54 fatalities.
The Churachandpur District Magistrate Sharath Chandra Arroju's notice said that “Subsequent relaxations shall be reviewed and notified based on assessment of the prevailing law and order situation.”
The fighting started as a result of a “Tribal Solidarity March” that was arranged across the state's ten hill districts to oppose the Meitei community's request for Scheduled Tribe (ST) designation.
The majority of Meiteis, who make up around 53% of Manipur's population, reside in the Imphal valley. Another 40% of the population are tribal people, especially from the hill areas (Nagas and Kukis).
